21 days ago I quit smoking for good. Since then I have…
- Regained something of a sense of smell and taste
- Not once purchased a pack of cigarettes, only to then feel guilty for spending money on them
- Had significantly fresher breath, I am sure!
- Not felt like I’ve just been kicked in the chest all the time
- Allowed good habits to spill over into the rest of my life. Hello wise food choices (I can taste you now!), more exercise (my chest doesn’t hurt!), and going to bed at a decent hour.
I’m sort of proud of me today.
Oh, and according to this, here are some more things I have to look forward to:
Within 2 weeks to 3 months
your blood circulation improves
your lung functioning increases up to 30 percentWithin 6 months
your coughing, stuffy nose, tiredness and shortness of breath improve
Within 1 year
your risk of smoking-related heart attack is cut in half
Within 10 years
your risk of dying from lung cancer is cut in half
Within 15 years
your risk of dying from a heart attack is the same as a person who never smoked
There are many other good reasons to quit smoking:
- You’ll set a good example for your children
- Your smoking will no longer affect the health of people around you
- You’ll have more money to save or to spend on other things – a pack of cigarettes a day adds up to more than $3,000 a year!
- You’ll have more energy to do the things you love
- You’ll pay lower life insurance premiums
- Cigarettes will no longer control your life
Sounds like a sweet deal to me.
Are any of my readers ex smokers? Anyone still smoking but really want to quit? Share your story in the comments, please!

Congrats! It is not easy but once you do it you feel great!
I am a stress smoker and I quit a few months ago(back in August) and have had one since– felt awful, it made me sick and so after a few puffs I put it out and havent looked back. DH lilkes to smoke cigars and not even an smidge of craving!
I am so proud of you too! Awesome!!! -
never smoked, but my sister (and my mum still does) did for years and then 6 years ago she quit and she has kept it up since, I couldn’t be more proud of her, every year I send her flowers on her quit smoking anniversary.
You need to more than “sort of proud” be super proud, its a big, big deal and you did it!!

I’m closing in on the 15 years. I’m so glad I quit. I have to be honest. It wasn’t hard. I was pregnant and I never smoked a lot to begin with. But I had certainly tried to quit several times without such a compelling reason, but always ended up going back to it.
I could never afford to smoke now. You’re making the right choice for about a million reasons. Good for you!! And congrats on three weeks!
